Dr.Ramesh – A Life Devoted to Public Health and Humanity

Since completing his MBBS in 1987, Dr. Rayapu Ramesh Babu has never pursued private practice or held a salaried job. For the past 38 years, he has devoted his life entirely to charitable and free medical services, with a special focus on Persons Living with HIV/AIDS (PLHIV) across the erstwhile united Andhra Pradesh. Through his tireless efforts, over 4,55,110 HIV/AIDS patients have received free, high-quality, and compassionate care, regardless of their financial or social status. His unwavering principle is simple yet profound: "No one should be denied treatment due to lack of money."

His service journey began even earlier, in 1983, during his medical student days. For over four decades, Dr. Ramesh has faced societal stigma and numerous personal and professional challenges related to HIV/AIDS, blood donation, and cancer awareness—but he overcame them all with courage, resilience, and education.

A Double Centurion Blood Donor, he has personally donated blood 200 times between April 1978 and March 2018, and inspired a remarkable 37,21,923 people to donate blood voluntarily—exclusively to Government Blood Banks—making it one of the largest community blood donation movements in the country.

Despite being a thyroid cancer survivor himself, he transformed personal adversity into public purpose by initiating cancer awareness and prevention programs. His campaigns have reached 6,56,716 people, identified 6,781 cancer cases, and guided them towards proper diagnosis and treatment.

Dr. Ramesh's work has drawn wide appreciation and validation from civil society and top government functionaries. His initiatives have beenwitnessed and commended by over 200 high-ranking officials, including:

  • The Former Vice President of India (4 times)
  • Former Governors of Andhra Pradesh and Mizoram (twice)
  • Present Governors of Andhra Pradesh and Haryana (twice) and Governor of Tripura once.
  • Former Chief Minister of Andhra Pradesh

His life is a true example of selfless public service, medical humanitarianism, and national inspiration.
