THE DETAILS OF THE PROGRAMMES THAT ARE BEING CONDUCTED BY DR. RAYAPU RAMESH BABU THROUGH “BOSS & CIPCA” SINCE APRIL 1987 TO MARCH 2026.

Dr. Rayapu Ramesh Babu is a distinguished Public Health Specialist who has been serving the poor and underserved communities for nearly four decades through his organizations BOSS (Blood Donors Organisation for Social Service) and CIPCA (Centre for Information, Prevention and Counselling on AIDS).

He is the Founder President and CEO of these organizations, which were among the first non-governmental, charitable, community-based institutions in India to initiate work on voluntary blood donation and HIV/AIDS. Established in 1987, BOSS & CIPCA currently have 5,245 doctors and 19,750 registered voluntary blood donors as active members.

Under the leadership of Dr. Ramesh Babu, 10,286 programmes have been organized between April 1987 and March 2026.

1. FREE RURAL MEDICAL & HEALTH CAMPS – 1,347

From April 1987 to March 2026, Dr. Ramesh has organized 1,347 free Rural Medical and Health Camps across Chittoor, Nellore, Kadapa, and Anantapur districts in Andhra Pradesh.

Criteria for Selecting Villages

The organization targeted the most remote and underserved villages, based on:

  1. Location 20 km or more away from the nearest motorable road
  2. No Primary Health Centre within a 20 km radius
  3. Accessibility to at least 10 surrounding villages with a combined population of about 10,000
Methodology
  • Awareness campaigns conducted 10 days prior to each camp
  • Medical teams reached villages by 8 AM and continued until late evening
  • Laboratory services (blood, urine, stool tests) provided
  • Free medicines supplied for 3 days
  • Patients requiring further management were referred to Government hospitals
  • Member-doctors of BOSS & CIPCA provided free specialist treatment
Impact
  • Villages covered: 3,965
  • Population benefited: 85,27,340
  • Specialist doctors involved: 12,452
  • Cost: Entirely funded by member doctors

In addition, Dr. Ramesh personally participated in 3,525 free medical camps conducted jointly with Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, charitable trusts, and international organizations.

2. BLOOD DONATION MOTIVATION CAMPAIGNS – 2,725

Since April 1987, Dr. Ramesh has conducted 2,725 blood donation motivation programmes across urban and semi-urban areas in the four districts mentioned above.

3. MASS BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGNS – 1,260

Dr. Ramesh has organized 1,260 Mass Blood Donation Camps (including awareness campaigns beforehand) from 1987 to 2026.

Procedure
  • Collaborated with Government Regional Blood Banks
  • Conducted on-site blood collection at donors’ locations
  • Blood screened for HIV and other infections
  • HIV-positive donors referred to CIPCA for counselling and follow-up
  • Donors provided certificates and basic insurance cover
Personal Contribution
  • Dr. Ramesh has donated blood 200 times (Double Centurion)
  • Recognized as an International Record Holder
  • Motivated over 39,625,411 people to donate blood

Campaign funding was entirely supported by BOSS & CIPCA doctors.

4. CANCER AWARENESS & PREVENTION CAMPAIGNS – 696

Between 1987 and 2026, Dr. Ramesh organized 696 Cancer Awareness Campaigns.

5. COVID-19 AWARENESS & PREVENTION CAMPAIGNS – 240

From January 2020 to March 2023, Dr. Ramesh conducted 240 COVID-19 awareness and vaccine promotion campaigns.

6. AIDS AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS – 3,963

Between 1987 and 2026, Dr. Ramesh organized 3,963 HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns, categorized as follows:

A. Community AIDS Awareness Programmes (CAAP) – 1,822

  • Conducted in urban centres and mandals
  • Awareness delivered through public speeches, demonstrations, and AV aids
  • IEC materials distributed
  • People educated: 40,37,008
  • Fully funded by BOSS & CIPCA doctors
  • Methodology

    • Only government grant ever received: Rs. 1,75,000 (1993)
    C. Rural AIDS Awareness Campaigns (RAAC) – 1,506
    • Conducted in remote villages
    • Awareness through folk songs, dramas, playlets, speeches, and discussions
    • IEC material distributed in simple Telugu
    • Encouraged villagers to visit CIPCA centres
    • People educated: 62,11,390
    • Entirely funded by the organization's member doctors
    7. Academic Programms For Doctors (APD) : 55

    Prof. Dr. Rayapu Ramesh Babu as the President of S.V.Medical College Alumni Association (SVMCAA),Tirupati, AP State, has successfully organized an extraordinary, unique, and exemplary academic initiative in the country. He conducted 50 regular monthly Super Specialty Academic Conferences virtually from November 2020 to September 2024, covering diverse fields such as Cardiac Sciences, Medical Oncology, Neurosciences, Nephrology, Urology, Gastroenterology, Endocrinology, Surgical Oncology, Rheumatology, Haematology, Reproductive Medicine & Surgery, updates on Medical & Surgical Specialities and Interventional Radiology. These conferences featured eminent legends and senior faculty in each specialty, with over 750 national and international speakers. The initiative received overwhelming appreciation from across India and abroad.More than 2,50,000 postgraduate students, practicing clinicians, IMA doctors, and faculty from medical colleges nationwide participated and conveyed their heartfelt gratitude to Dr. Ramesh Babu for providing such an exceptional platform to learn from distinguished teachers from India and around the world. All participants received 4 Continuing Medical Education (CME) credit hours from the Andhra Pradesh Medical Council for each conference, completely free of cost. In total, approximately 200 CME credit points were awarded. During the year 2023 alone, a series of International Conferences were organized to educate and empower Primary Care Physicians across the country. Such extensive academic activities have never been conducted anywhere in India or globally by any medical college, medical institution, or medical association—particularly notable given that they were successfully executed during the challenging COVID-19 pandemic period. All programs strictly adhered to the protocols, principles, and ethical guidelines issued by the Government of India, with no financial support from pharmaceutical companies or corporate hospitals. This principled approach was widely appreciated. The initiative also received commendation from the Hon’ble Prime Minister of India and from the Chairman, Andhra Pradesh Medical Council (APMC).

    Dr. Ramesh Babu’s work has received wide appreciation and validation from civil society as well as from several eminent government dignitaries. His public health initiatives and humanitarian medical services have been witnessed and commended by more than 200 high-ranking officials, including:
