RAMESH BABU THROUGH “BOSS & CIPCA” SINCE APRIL 1987 TO MARCH 2025.
Dr. Rayapu Ramesh Babu is a distinguished Public Health Specialist who has been serving the poor and underserved communities for nearly four decades through his organizations BOSS (Blood Donors Organisation for Social Service) and CIPCA (Centre for Information, Prevention and Counselling on AIDS).
He is the Founder President and CEO of these organizations, which were among the first non-governmental, charitable, community-based institutions in India to initiate work on voluntary blood donation and HIV/AIDS. Established in 1987, BOSS & CIPCA currently have 2,524 doctors and 16,906 registered voluntary blood donors as active members.
TOTAL PROGRAMMES ORGANIZED (1987–2025)
Under the leadership of Dr. Ramesh Babu, 9,811 programmes have been organized between April 1987 and March 2025.

1. FREE RURAL MEDICAL & HEALTH CAMPS – 1,287
From April 1987 to March 2025, Dr. Ramesh has organized 1,287 free Rural Medical and Health Camps across Chittoor, Nellore, Kadapa, and Anantapur districts in Andhra Pradesh.
Criteria for Selecting Villages
The organization targeted the most remote and underserved villages, based on:
- Location 20 km or more away from the nearest motorable road
- No Primary Health Centre within a 20 km radius
- Accessibility to at least 10 surrounding villages with a combined population of about 10,000
Methodology
- Awareness campaigns conducted 10 days prior to each camp
- Medical teams reached villages by 8 AM and continued until late evening
- Laboratory services (blood, urine, stool tests) provided
- Free medicines supplied for 3 days
- Patients requiring further management were referred to Government hospitals
- Member-doctors of BOSS & CIPCA provided free specialist treatment
Impact
- Villages covered: 3,905
- Population benefited: 75,27,340
- Specialist doctors involved: 10,452
- Cost: Entirely funded by member doctors
In addition, Dr. Ramesh personally participated in 2,925 free medical camps conducted jointly with Lions Clubs, Rotary Clubs, charitable trusts, and international organizations.
2. BLOOD DONATION MOTIVATION CAMPAIGNS – 2,665
Since April 1987, Dr. Ramesh has conducted 2,665 blood donation motivation programmes across urban and semi-urban areas in the four districts mentioned above.

- Conducted sessions in colleges, schools, factories, banks, government offices, youth clubs, etc.
- Addressed misconceptions about blood donation
- Registered volunteer donors and identified blood groups
- Created district-level registries for emergency blood support
- Ensured services were provided only to poor patients in Government hospitals

- Blood donated exclusively to Government Blood Banks
- Entire cost borne by BOSS & CIPCA member doctors
3. MASS BLOOD DONATION CAMPAIGNS – 1,200
Dr. Ramesh has organized 1,200 Mass Blood Donation Camps (including awareness campaigns beforehand) from 1987 to 2025.
Procedure
- Collaborated with Government Regional Blood Banks
- Conducted on-site blood collection at donors’ locations
- Blood screened for HIV and other infections
- HIV-positive donors referred to CIPCA for counselling and follow-up
- Donors provided certificates and basic insurance cover
Personal Contribution
- Dr. Ramesh has donated blood 200 times (Double Centurion)
- Recognized as an International Record Holder
- Motivated over 37,21,923 people to donate blood
Campaign funding was entirely supported by BOSS & CIPCA doctors.
4. CANCER AWARENESS & PREVENTION CAMPAIGNS – 576
Between 1987 and 2025, Dr. Ramesh organized 576 Cancer Awareness Campaigns.
Impact
- People educated: 6,56,716
- Potential cancer patients identified: 6,781
- Counselled and referred for diagnosis and treatment
- Fully funded by member doctors
5. COVID-19 AWARENESS & PREVENTION CAMPAIGNS – 180
From January 2020 to March 2022, Dr. Ramesh conducted 180 COVID-19 awareness and vaccine promotion campaigns.
Impact
- People reached: 57,931
- Encouraged voluntary testing for symptomatic individuals
- Referred mild cases to quarantine centres
- Referred serious cases to designated COVID hospitals
- Funded by BOSS & CIPCA doctors
6. AIDS AWARENESS CAMPAIGNS – 3,843
Dr. Ramesh has organized 3,843 HIV/AIDS awareness campaigns, categorized as follows:
A. Community AIDS Awareness Programmes (CAAP) – 1,822
- Conducted in urban centres and mandals
- Awareness delivered through public speeches, demonstrations, and AV aids
- IEC materials distributed
- People educated: 30,37,880
- Fully funded by BOSS & CIPCA doctors

- Campaigns across Andhra Pradesh: 225 (2000–2006)
- Students educated: 5,75,000
Funding
- Funded by APSACS (AP State AIDS Control Society)
- Only government grant ever received: Rs. 1,75,000 (1993)
C. Rural AIDS Awareness Campaigns (RAAC) – 1,446
- Conducted in remote villages
- Awareness through folk songs, dramas, playlets, speeches, and discussions
- IEC material distributed in simple Telugu
- Encouraged villagers to visit CIPCA centres
- People educated: 50,24,000
- Entirely funded by the organization's member doctors
SUMMARY
From 1987 to 2025, Dr. Rayapu Ramesh Babu has built and led one of India’s largest, longest, and most impactful voluntary public health movements, touching the lives of crores of people through free healthcare, awareness, prevention, blood donation, and disease control activities—without any regular government or foreign funding.
